Our parish’s Evangelization/Faith Formation program assists in the faith development of the children of our parish, levels 1 through 8. Our Mission Statement, “The aim of the Assumption Evangelization/Faith Formation program is to assist our parish families in understanding, participating and believing in the Catholic Faith,” guides us in the ongoing development of this process. We use several methodologies depending on the needs of the children: Blest Are We, Visions, Our Catholic Identity, Faith Fusion, Pflaum Weeklies and the series for Special Needs Students from the University of Dayton, Ohio. We incorporate Sacrament Preparation programs for Sacrament level students as well as older students who have not received their Sacraments in a timely fashion. Note that our Sunday Level 1 program includes the participation of the entire family.
Our parish’s Office of Evangelization and Faith Formation is available for children who need sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation and First Communion. According to diocesan guidelines, this is a two-year program. Here at Assumption Parish, a child usually begins in the first grade and celebrates First Eucharist in May of the second grade. Children in the second grade and above who have not begun preparing for the celebration of this sacrament are invited to participate in our parish program.
Our parish’s First Communion Program takes place on Sundays. It involves the entire family (parents, the child/ren preparing to celebrate First Eucharist, other siblings needed Faith Formation) and includes three essential elements: Participation at the 9:30 a.m. parish mass with your family; breakfast with the other families who are enrolled in the Sunday program; breakup into various groups/classes designed for the children as well as the adults. The Sunday session ends around noon.

Children’s Faith Formation Program (Levels 3 through 6)
Classes for students, grades 3 through 6, take place during the week. Depending upon the availability of a catechist, the classes usually take place on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Saturday.
Students who have a sibling in Level 1 or 2 have their class time on Sunday with their participation at the 9:30 a.m. parish mass with your family; breakfast with the other families who are enrolled in the Sunday program; breakup into various groups/classes designed for the children as well as the adults. The Sunday session ends around noon.
The diocesan requires a two-year formation period for the celebration of this sacrament
Here at Assumption parish, this program usually begins in grade 7 (Level 7) with the student participating in classes which take place during the week: usually Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday (depending upon the catechist’s availability).
The second year of the program (Level 8) takes place on Sundays from 9:15 – 11:45 a.m. and includes celebrating the Eucharist with the parish community at 9:30 a.m.
The Sunday program involves an excellent video/discussion group format led by trained catechists. The program includes a special retreat day as well as celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. High school students who wish to celebrate the sacrament should contact Lisette Robustelli (LRobustelli@abvmcentereach.com) our Director of Evangelization and Faith Formation for details.
In addition, our Middle School Ministry (MSM) program is an additional formation experience available for those who wish to participate. They meet on Thursday from 7:00 – 8:45 p.m. Contact Renata Ptak our parish’s Youth Minister for further information: 631-585-8760 ext 121; email, RPTak@abvmcentereach.com.
