Renewing the Heart of Leadership: Small Group Leaders Gather for Spiritual Retreat at Villa Immaculata
The small group leaders of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish gathered on Saturday September 19th for a day of prayer, reflection, and fellowship at the tranquil Villa Immaculata House of Prayer in Riverhead. Designed to offer a spiritual oasis for those who so generously give their time to guide others, the retreat provided a sacred space to recharge, reflect, and deepen their personal relationship with God.
The day’s highlights were anchored by guest speaker Frank Fontinell, who brought profound insight, encouragement, and practical wisdom to the leaders. Through a series of engaging talks, Fontinell explored not only the depth of God's love, but the fundamental way we love, grow in love, and the need to forgive in our relationships with others. His words reminded everyone that effective ministry flows from a heart rooted in prayer, healthy community connection, and personal intimacy with Christ.
In addition to the presentation, the retreat featured moments of silent contemplation against a peaceful backdrop and the celebration of the Holy Eucharist with Father Joseph. Participants also benefited from shared discussions, where they exchanged experiences, joys, and the challenges of loving and forgiving others and ourselves. Afterwards, the group headed over to Ruggero's Family Style Restaurant at The Shoppes at East Wind in Wading River, New York, continuing their fellowship over a wonderful dinner together.
The faith community of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish extends its deepest gratitude to Frank Fontinell for his inspiring words, to the Sisters at Villa Immaculata for their warm hospitality, and to all the small group leaders who participate so faithfully in the spiritual growth of the parish. Equipped with renewed hearts and inspired vision, these leaders return ready to continue guiding their groups with love, grace, and devotion.
